H: A Quaint Treatise on "Flees and the Art a Artificial Flee Making. 1876,London,Published by John B.Day, 25 actual specimens of flies and fly making materials in22 oval mounts, 2 col. litho plates, orig. decor green cloth binding, quarto. a.e.g.ASSOCIATION COPY having an original photograph of Aldam and being signed by the author.(There were just a few issued with this when Aldam sold the book himself direct to thecustomer). On mount 3 an extra fly has been hooked into the blue circular seal. There ispractically no foxing or browning, as is quite frequent in this book, and the binding isin good order. The page upon which the original photograph has been pasted has becomewrinkled due to the different texture of the photo and the paper but never the less anice example.

Original decorative green cloth binding with gilt and black emblemson upper cover. Rebacked and slight wear to binding. As usual there is some foxing.VARIANT ISSUE. This being one of the copies without the two coloured plates and withwhite seals attaching the hackles, silks and flies to mounts. The author wrote anarticle in the Field, 13th May, 1882 objecting to these copies which were aparentlyissued without his knowledge. He subsequently offered copies of the original issue tocustomers signed by himself guaranteeing their authenticity. Not as many of these appearas the original edition.
